Armed Assault at Stokesdale Industrial Site

Summary: On Monday, June 24, 2024, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Rockingham County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a disturbing incident at Ontex, an industrial site in Stokesdale, N.C. The incident involved JUAN ANTONIO POLANCO-FRIAS, a former employee of CK Steel, a contracted company working at Ontex.

Details: Upon arrival, deputies were informed that JUAN ANTONIO POLANCO-FRIAS had entered the job site and awaited the arrival of three former coworkers from CK Steel. Upon their arrival, POLANCO-FRIAS confronted them, brandishing a firearm. He proceeded to assault one individual with an extension cord, threatening him at gunpoint to coerce the other two into similar acts of violence.

Following the assault, POLANCO-FRIAS fled the scene. The victims promptly contacted emergency services for assistance.

Arrest and Charges: Later in the day, the Asheboro Police Department apprehended JUAN ANTONIO POLANCO-FRIAS at his residence in Asheboro, N.C. He faces multiple charges, including:

  • Three counts of False Imprisonment

  • Three counts of Communicating Threats

  • Three counts of Assault, Inflicting Serious Injury

  • Possession of Methamphetamine Additionally, POLANCO-FRIAS was found to have several outstanding warrants from Randolph County.

Legal Proceedings: JUAN ANTONIO POLANCO-FRIAS is currently held at the Randolph County Detention Facility under an $11,000 secured bond. The victims, whose identities remain undisclosed for their safety, are expected to recover from their injuries.
