PATRICK COUNTY, VA – A high-speed pursuit that started in Patrick County ended in Henry County on Friday night.
A deputy tried to stop a Ford Mustang for going 67 in a 40 miles per hour zone on County Line Road around 7:45 p.m., according to the Patrick County Sheriff’s Office.
The Ford allegedly fled when the deputy turned around to stop it.
Authorities said two other deputies were close by and they observed the vehicle pass them at a speed estimated in excess of 90 MPH.
A chase began and it eventually led deputies to Fairystone Park Highway in Henry County.
Deputies said the Mustang reached speeds in excess of 135 MPH in a remote stretch of Fairystone Park Highway and it encountered congestion from slower moving vehicles near the Greystone Drive intersection.
As a result of the slower speed, one of the deputies was able to perform a Precision Immobilization Technique to stop the vehicle.
The patrol vehicle got minimal damage to the passenger side front end and the Ford got extensive damage to the entire driver side from the PIT maneuver.
No one was injured in the incident.
Jody Wayme Adkins, 22, of Patrick Springs, was arrested and charged with felony eluding law enforcement, reckless driving and reckless driving by speed.
He is being held without bond in the Patrick County Jail.
The Henry County Sheriff's Office and the Virginia State Police assisted in the pursuit.
