ROCKY MOUNT, VA – The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is investigating the homicide of a 59-year-old man.
The sheriff’s office, along with state police and public safety, responded to the 10000 block of Virgil Goode Highway in Rocky Mount at around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Deputies said they found 59-year-old Denny Smith, of Rocky Mount, dead in his home from a gunshot wound.
The suspect, 55-year-old Gregory Kendrick, of Rocky Mount, was arrested on scene.
Kendrick has been charged with second degree murder and is being held at the Franklin County Jail with no bond.
The sheriff’s office said this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community.
