HENRY COUNTY, VA – Six people, including two children, were taken to the hospital after an early Sunday morning crash.
Emergency services were called to the incident on A.L. Philpott Highway near Mount Olivet Road in Henry County around 12:15 a.m.
“The Dodge Charger, traveling at a high rate of speed in the left lane traveling eastbound, came up on the Nissan Pathfinder and impacted it in the near,” Virginia State Police Trooper M.L. Gravely told BTW21 News at the scene.
Trooper Gravely said the force of the impact propelled the Nissan into the median and subsequently into the embankment.
The Dodge Charger careened into a guardrail before the driver fled the scene, according to Gravely.
The two children in the back of the Nissan sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Sovah Health in Martinsville for treatment.
The Dyer Store Volunteer Fire Department, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Henry County Public Safety, and Martinsville Fire & EMS, swiftly arrived to provide assistance.
The crash is still under investigation.
