MARTINSVILLE, VA – Officer Alfredo Huerta has been named the new School Resource Officer for Martinsville Middle School.
Huerta has been with the Martinsville Police Department since 2020.
Prior to that he was employed by Henry County Public Schools as an English Language Learner tutor where worked with students from kindergarten through 8th grade.
“I am looking forward to building strong relationships with the Martinsville Middle School staff and students,” Huerta said. “I thank the Martinsville Police Department and Martinsville City Public Schools for this great opportunity to work with the community and help keep our children and school safe.”
A competitive runner himself, Huerta also helped coach cross country and track.
He was born in Mexico, but has spent most of his life in Martinsville and Henry County.
A graduate of Bassett High School and Patrick & Henry Community College, Huerta is currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and aerospace management at Averett University where he has already earned his commercial pilot’s license.
Outside of work and school, Huerta competes in road race marathons, iron distance triathlons, and other endurance sports.
He has competed multiple times in the Boston Marathon and the Half Ironman World Championship.
He recently completed a weeklong training to prepare for his new role as SRO.
Martinsville City Public Schools has had resource officers in place in all K-12 schools for nearly a decade.
