FIELDALE, VA – Multiple fire departments responded to a fire in the 2500 block of Dillons Fork Road in Henry County’s Fieldale community Monday afternoon.
At 2:27 p.m., firefighters were called to the blaze and responding units found a building fully engulfed in flames.
Fieldale Volunteer Fire Company Deputy Chief Keith Sink said the two-bay garage, vehicle and the apartment upstairs were a total loss.
According to Sink, the two occupants made it out of the building with one of them suffering from smoke inhalation.
Officials believe a spark from a grinder tool being used in the garage started the fire.
Volunteer firefighters from Fieldale, Patrick-Henry, and Horsepasture battled the blaze.
The Henry County Department of Public Safety, Fieldale-Collinsville Rescue Squad, Virginia State Police and VDOT assisted.
