Authorities seek leads in Henry County murder investigation

HENRY COUNTY, VA – Authorities in Henry County released surveillance video on Monday as they seek leads in a murder investigation.

Deputies were called at 7:28 a.m. to an apartment on Summit View Drive to check on a man that did not show up for work.

Deputies responded and found Michael Jerome Hairston, 46, dead inside his apartment.

Investigators said Hairston got home on Saturday shortly after 5 p.m. and about two hours later, a male and a female go inside his apartment.

After several minutes, video from a neighbor's doorbell camera shows both individuals run from the apartment.

That same night, the neighbor called 9-1-1 around 7:20 p.m. to reported that two juveniles were outside messing with her apartment and possibly tried to damage her door.

Deputies responded, spoke to the neighbor, checked the apartment complex and then left after not finding damage to the doors.

Hairston’s body has been taken to the medical examiner office where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death.
