Bedford County Task Force Dismantles Child Exploitation Ring, Arrests Two Additional Suspects

Bedford County, Va. (BTW21) - Following the arrest of Jack E. Smith last week, authorities have made two more arrests in connection with an ongoing investigation into Internet Crimes Against Children in the region.


Deputies with the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, as part of the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, have arrested Robert L. Johnson, 45, of Lynchburg, and Mary A.


Davis, 52, of Rustburg, on charges related to child exploitation.


Both suspects were taken into custody after a joint investigation with the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police, which resulted in multiple search warrants being executed at their respective residences.


Johnson and Davis are facing charges of use of a communications system to commit certain offenses involving children, production of child pornography, and sexual exploitation of a minor.


Their cases will be presented to a grand jury for consideration of formal charges.


Detectives are urging anyone with additional information about these suspects or other individuals involved in similar crimes to contact the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office at 540-586-4800.


The Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force remains committed to protecting children from online exploitation and will continue to work closely with local, state, and federal partners to identify and apprehend those who engage in these heinous crimes.
