MARTINSVILLE, VA – The Charity League of Martinsville and Henry County awarded 29 scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each to area high school graduates and college students.
The Charity League, established in 1931, strives to promote growth and development of children through education and health programs.
Recipients of the scholarships were chosen by the scholarship committee on the basis of college plans, financial need, grade point average, community involvement and service and recommendations from their high school or college counselors.
This year's recipients were:
Aaliyah Craig, daughter of Timmy and Tonya Hylton, is a Bassett High School graduate and plans to attend Liberty Univeristy
Alexis Watts, daughter of Debra Green, is a Martinsville High School graduate and plans to attend Longwood University
Anesia Martin, daughter of Pamela Martin, is a Magna Vista High School graduate and plans to attend Emory & Henry College
Anna Osenkowsky, daughter of Jim and Kristin Osenkowsky, is a Bassett High School graduate and plans to attend Christopher Newport University
Brooke Tilley, daughter of Mark and Tracy Tilley, is a Bassett High School graduate and plans to attend Clemson University
Dejionna Harris, daughter of the late Shavika Harris, is a Carlisle School graduate and plans to attend Bluefield College
Dorian Green, son of Dennis and Karen Green, is a Magna Vista High School graduate and plans to attend Hampden-Sydney College
Emily Bray, daughter of James and Connie Bray, is a Magna Vista High School graduate and plans to attend the University of Lynchburg
Faith Young, daughter of Victor and Lynne Young, is a Martinsville High School graduate and plans to attend Patrick Henry Community College
Hunter Greer, son of Tim and Michelle Greer, is a Magna Vista High School graduate and plans to attend Radford University
India Manning, daughter of Randy and Karen Manning, is a Bassett High School graduate and plans to attend Bridgewater College
Jacob Tisdale, son of Travis and Christina Tisdale, is a Carlisle School graduate and plans to attend the University of Virginia
Jett Hooker, daughter of George and Janet Hooker, is a student at Virginia Tech
Kaitlin Brown, daughter of Mike and Michelle Brown, is a student at Converse College
Kathryne Hruza, daughter of Eric Hruza and the late Maureen Fitzgibbon, is a Martinsville High School graduate and plans to attend the University of Virginia
Kendall Cope, son of Tammy Cope, is a student at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech
Kolby Quigg, son of Kenneth and Sharon Quigg, is a Magna Vista High School graduate and plans to attend Virginia Military Institute
Madeline Bishop, daughter of Adam and Leigh Ann Bishop, is a Bassett High School graduate and plans to attend Emory & Henry College
Marcus Esdaile, son of Michael and Sherrill Esdaile, is a Magna Vista High School graduate and plans to attend Virginia Tech
McKinley Verlik, son of Sean and Tanya Verlik, is a Bassett High School graduate and plans to attend the University of Virginia
Melissa Anderson, daughter of Lisa Anderson, is a Martinsville High School graduate and plans to attend Virginia Commonwealth University
Micah Montgomery, son of Kirk and Emily Montgomery, is a student at Liberty University
Myiah Terry, niece of Holly Needy, is a student at George Mason University
