MARTINSVILLE, VA – A beloved trailblazer is back in uniform.


Retired Martinsville Police Officer Coretha Gravely is Clearview Early Learning Center's very first School Resource Officer.


Officer Gravely's arrival represents a milestone for Martinsville City Public Schools, as it fulfills their vision of having an SRO in every school, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for all students.


A true pioneer, Gravely made history as the first Black woman to join the Martinsville Police Department in 1991.


Her dedication to service and community has been unwavering throughout her career, and her return in this new capacity exemplifies her continued commitment to making a positive impact.


Despite retiring from full-time duty last year, Officer Gravely remains deeply connected to the Martinsville community, embodying the spirit of service and dedication.


Her passion for fostering relationships and enhancing safety resonates with all who have had the privilege of knowing her.


In her role, Officer Gravely will play a pivotal role in creating a secure and supportive environment for students, faculty, and staff.


Her presence will undoubtedly inspire and empower all who walk through the preschool's doors, ensuring that every child feels safe, valued, and empowered to learn and grow.
