HENRY COUNTY, VA – Virginia State Police have released the name of the Magna Vista High School student killed in a single-vehicle crash on Thursday morning.
The crash happened at around 8:19 a.m. in 5100 block of Soapstone Road in Henry County's Ridgeway community.
A 2005 Honda Accord was going west on Soapstone Road, when it run off the right side of the road, hit a tree and then overturned, according to State Police.
Two passengers, a 14-year-old male and a 17-year-old male, and the 17-year-old male driver of the Honda were airlifted to the hospital with injuries.
Police said a third passenger, 17-year-old Nicholas James Pruitt, of Axton, died at the scene.
All four were wearing seat belts, authorities said.
Speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
The crash reconstruction team and the bureau of criminal investigation were called to assist.
The crash investigation is ongoing.
On Thursday, counselors were available to talk with Magna Vista students and staff about the loss.

HENRY COUNTY, VA – A student has died following a single-vehicle accident in the Ridgeway community of Henry County.
At 8:24 a.m. Virginia State Police responded to the crash in the 5100 block of Soapstone Road.
State police confirmed that there was one fatality and three were flown to area hospitals for treatment. All were juveniles.
