Danville Man Sentenced to Prison After Pointing Gun at Officers

Nicholas Beddoo

A Danville man will spend at least another year in prison following a January 2024 incident in which he pointed a firearm at law enforcement officers.

Nicholas Beddoo, 29, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Monday but will serve only 14 months behind bars due to time already served and the credit for his pre-trial detention.

Beddoo pleaded guilty to several charges in November 2024, including assault and battery on a law enforcement officer and discharging a firearm on school property.

He was arrested after an altercation with officers, during which he pointed a gun at them. The incident took place near a school, intensifying the seriousness of the charges related to discharging a firearm on school grounds.

At Monday’s hearing, Judge Carolyn McMahon handed down a 10-year sentence but reduced it significantly, allowing Beddoo to serve only 14 months in jail.

The sentence takes into account the time Beddoo has already spent in custody since his arrest in January 2024. After his release, Beddoo will be on probation and subject to strict conditions as part of his post-incarceration supervision.

The charges stem from a January 2024 incident when police responded to a call involving Beddoo. Upon arrival, officers encountered Beddoo in a confrontation that escalated when he allegedly drew a firearm and pointed it toward them. Officers responded quickly, and fortunately, no one was injured in the exchange.

The gun was later recovered at the scene.

As part of his plea agreement, Beddoo also agreed to avoid any further criminal activity during his time on probation, which will begin after his release from prison.

While his sentence reflects the reduced time due to his guilty plea, authorities emphasized the importance of accountability in the case.

"Law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to protect our community, and actions like Mr. Beddoo's will not be tolerated," Danville Police stated. "We are thankful that the situation was resolved without any injuries and remain committed to keeping our officers and the public safe."

The case serves as a reminder of the dangers posed when individuals engage in violent or reckless behavior, particularly involving firearms.

Officials hope this sentencing will send a message that such actions will have serious legal consequences.
