MARTINSVILLE, VA – “A teddy bear, a rack board, crayons.”
In the library of Albert Harris Elementary School, the magic of Christmas unfolded with the joyous voices of little ones like Andrea Craighead, a kindergartener with a twinkle in her eye, sharing the enchanting surprises Santa Claus brought her.
“Good, because there's lots of gifts,” Craighead said when she was asked how the surprise made her feel.
On a festive Wednesday, the school transformed into a winter wonderland as Santa and his merry elves from Drake Extrusion, Inc., armed with over 150 Christmas presents, spread the holiday spirit.
This heartwarming scene was all part of Drake Operation Christmas Shoebox, now in its 5th year.
“It's amazing to see the children getting different gifts and just them seeing how excited they are,” stated Tiffany Divens, a Drake employee. “We have to thank everybody at Drake Extrusion who donated to the cause. We always end up with more than enough for each child, so it's just really an honor and a privilege to be able to make somebody's day.”
The spirited employees collected toys, pulled together their funds, and created a wave of smiles by gifting these presents to the school children.
“It really does give us the opportunity to give back to the community and for the community to see that we're just not a corporation, but we also care about the community so it's just an honor to be able to give back,” Divens added.
In every giggle, every unwrap, and every sparkle in those young eyes, the true magic of Christmas was alive and well.
