FRANKLIN COUNTY, VA – An arrest has been made in a Franklin County crash that left one person dead Monday, Virginia State Police said.
The crash occurred around 7:49 p.m. on Six Mile Post Road near Pepper Road.
According to state police, a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban was going west on Six Mile Post Road, when it lost control, ran off the right side of the road and overcorrected crossing the centerline.
The Chevrolet hit two motorcycles, a 2009 Yamaha and a 2001 Kawasaki, which were going east.
The Chevrolet was driven by Ronald Wayne Patterson, Jr., 27, of Hurt.
State police said Patterson fled the scene on foot after the crash and was taken into custody a short time later.
The Yamaha was driven by James Benjamin Trail, 27, of Ferrum.
Trail was wearing his helmet and died at the scene, police said.
The Kawasaki was driven by Brandon James Carson, 19, of Ferrum.
Carson was also wearing his helmet and he was transported to the hospital for injuries received in the crash.
Patterson was charged with felony hit and run.
The crash remains under investigation.
