MARTINSVILLE, VA – The Fayette Area Historical Initiative will host a celebration of Juneteenth ‘Looking Back and Reaching Forward’ on Saturday.
The community event will be held at Baldwin Park, 500 Swanson Street in Martinsville, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Admission is free to everyone.
“It is vital to acknowledge and educate our community on the significance of Juneteenth – not just in Black history, but American History. This Juneteenth celebration creates a platform with the potential to cultivate a better understanding of Black history and culture, which fosters better relationships between groups with different backgrounds,” DeShanta Hairston, FAHI Executive Director stated.
Performances will be given by The Spiritual Seven, The Turn It Up Band, The Souls of Beauty Dancers, and The MHC Elite Prancerettes with a DJ playing family-friendly music between sets.
King Kidz Rentals will provide a bounce house and obstacle course, and Buzy Bounce will provide free snow cones and cotton candy.
Food will be available for purchase by Tammy’s Grill, Kornna Kitchen, and Hylton’s Wood Fired Grill.
Various retail vendors will also be on-site.
