ALLEGHANY COUNTY, VA
Virginia State Police are currently investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred on Tuesday, June 18, at 8:15 p.m.
The incident took place on Route 687, approximately half a mile north of Route 830 in Alleghany County.
According to reports, a 2014 Toyota Camry traveling south on Route 687 veered off the roadway, striking the jersey wall of a bridge before overturning down an embankment where it caught fire.
The driver of the Toyota sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital.
Tragically, the passenger, identified as Aleigha Lashay Angle, 19, from Covington, Va., was not wearing her seatbelt and succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Authorities have indicated that charges are pending.
The Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team has been summoned to assist in the investigation, which remains ongoing.
