Fatal Crash Investigation in Craig County

CRAIG, VA


Virginia State Police is investigating a three-vehicle crash which resulted in a

fatality. The crash occurred on Sunday, (May 26) at 5:00 p.m. on Route 311, one mile north of Route 692 in Craig County.


A 2015 Kia Sorrento was traveling north on Route 311, when the Kia struck a 2015 Buick Lacrosse in the rear, which was also in the northbound lane.


The Buick was stopped in the roadway making a legal left turn. Both vehicles then ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado which was parked and unoccupied.


The driver of the Kia was identified as Sherrie Joann Robertson, 55, of New Castle, Va. Ms.


Robertson was not wearing her seatbelt and died at the scene.


The driver of the Buick, a 28-year-old female was not wearing her seatbelt and a 39-year-old male, which was wearing his seatbelt were injured.


There were also two juveniles in the vehicle, a 3-year-old male and a 2-year-old male. All the occupants of the Buick were transported to a Roanoke Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.


The juveniles were properly restrained in child safety seats.


The crash remains under investigation.
