Fatal Crash on I-81 in Montgomery County, Virginia Under Investigation

Montgomery County, Va. –(BTW21) April 5, 2025 – Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred on Saturday afternoon, April 5, 2025, on Interstate 81 in Montgomery County.
The incident took place at approximately 3:38 p.m. near the northbound 110-mile marker.
Authorities report that a 2020 BMW 540I was traveling northbound when the vehicle veered off the left side of the road and collided with the guardrail.
The driver has been identified as William Howell Curtis II, 52, of Riner, Virginia.
Curtis, who was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, was transported to New River Valley Medical Center.
Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival.
Virginia State Police are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash.
No further details have been released at this time, but authorities have stated that they are working to piece together the circumstances leading up to the accident.
