
Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred Sunday afternoon in Franklin County.
The incident took place at approximately 5:25 p.m. on December 15, on Truevine Road, about a quarter mile east of Pig River Road.
According to state police, a 1997 Toyota Tacoma was traveling westbound on Truevine Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The Tacoma ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree, causing significant damage to the vehicle.
The driver of the Toyota was identified as Heather Rae Thurman, 27, of Glad Hill, Virginia.
Police say Thurman was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency responders arrived at the location, but despite their efforts, Thurman could not be revived. No other individuals were involved in the crash.
Virginia State Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident, including potential factors such as road conditions, speed, and the driver's actions prior to the crash.
