FBI to reopen Short family murder case




ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, NC – Federal investigators plan to review all aspects of the Short family murder case as they reopen the investigation.


Michael and Mary Short were found dead in their Henry County, Virginia home on August 15, 2002.


Their 9-year-old daughter Jennifer was missing until her remains were found in Stoneville on September 25, 2002.


Their murders remain unsolved to this day.


The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, Henry County Sheriff's Office, Virginia State Police and the FBI are forming a task force to let fresh eyes re-examine all the evidence and the case from the start.


The task force will use any new technology that may be available now.
