Fieldale shooting incident leaves 1 injured, 3 arrested

FIELDALE, VA – A shooting, crash and assault in Fieldale left three people behind bars Sunday night.


The 9-1-1 center got a call around 8:12 p.m. that a man in a white Dodge Charger was driving on Dale Avenue shouting “absurdities,” according to Henry County Sheriff Wayne Davis.


The Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police responded to the scene.

Sheriff Davis said it was determined the incident started as a dispute involving three men.

When the Dodge, driven by 59-year-old Dempsey Fitzgerald Martin, of Irisburg Road, stopped after hitting a mailbox, 68-year-old Allen Bradley Parks, of Dale Avenue, fired shots at the vehicle.


Parks and 77-year-old Joe Edward Patton, of Chadmore Drive, approached Martin while he was still in the vehicle, and an altercation occurred with Martin being assaulted.


The three men were arrested and are being held at the Henry County Adult Detention Center.


Martin is being held on a $3,000 secured bond and is facing a driving while intoxicated charge.

Parks is being held without bond and was charged with shooting at an occupied vehicle and unlawful wounding.

Patton is being held on a $5,000 secured bond and was charged with unlawful wounding.

FIELDALE, VA – An unusual call for law enforcement in Henry County left one man hurt and at least two others behind bars.


Henry County deputies responded Sunday night to the intersection of Dale Avenue and Chadmore Drive in Fieldale for a shooting incident.


Henry County Sheriff Wayne Davis told BTW21 News a man in a white Dodge Charger was driving on Chadmore Drive shouting “absurdities.”

One resident took out a handgun and shot multiple rounds, according to Sheriff Davis.


At this time, it is unclear where the man shot at, but he will likely face charges in the incident.


No one involved was struck by the gunfire.


A second resident got the driver of the vehicle out and assaulted him, Davis said.


That man was arrested and is facing charges.


Sometime during the incident, the vehicle struck at least one mailbox.


The driver was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.
