HENRY COUNTY, VA – On Monday around 6 p.m., a Cessna 172E encountered trouble during a landing attempt on runway number 36 of Pace Airport located at 200 Pace Airport Road in Henry County.
As the aircraft approached the runway for landing, it began to "porpoise, causing it to bounce upon touchdown, according to Virginia State Police.
Recognizing the danger, the pilot attempted to abort the landing and regain altitude.
Despite the pilot's efforts, the runway proved too short to facilitate a safe takeoff.
The aircraft overshot the runway's end and tumbled down an embankment before coming to a rest.
State Police said the pilot, who was alone aboard the plane for training purposes, emerged uninjured from the incident.
Weather conditions at the time of the flight were reported as clear and deemed unrelated to the occurrence.
Police said the flight originated from Blue Ridge Airport, also located in Henry County, with the intended destination being Pace Airport.
Authorities have confirmed that the incident was not categorized as an emergency landing.
