A 28-year-old man, Logan Michael Spencer, has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of child pornography in Roanoke, Virginia.
According to the Roanoke Police Department, Spencer was taken into custody on Monday, February 24, after a search warrant was executed at his residence in the 2500 block of Weaver Road SW.
The arrest was made possible by a tip from the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce, which led detectives from the Roanoke Police Department's Special Victims Unit to investigate Spencer.
The search warrant was carried out in collaboration with the Virginia State Police and the Office of the Sheriff of Franklin County.
Spencer, a former employee of the YMCA of Virginia's Blue Ridge, has been charged with possession, reproduction, distribution, solicitation, and facilitation of child pornography.
In a statement, Mark Johnson, President and CEO of the YMCA, expressed the organization's commitment to providing a safe environment and cooperated with the authorities during the investigation.
"We have recently learned of the arrest of a former staff member, Logan Spencer, facing charges related to the possession of child pornography," Johnson said. "This individual had worked in various roles at the YMCA, including after-school programming."
In addition to his former role at the YMCA, Spencer is currently employed as a dispatcher at Roanoke County's Emergency Communications Center and has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
He has also served as the Volunteer Chief for the Cave Spring Volunteer Rescue Squad since 2020 and has been suspended from this position.
The Roanoke Police Department is investigating the possibility that Spencer may have had contact with children in the community and is urging anyone with information to come forward.
The investigation is ongoing, and Spencer's arrest has raised concerns about the potential risks to children in the area.
The police department is asking anyone with information to contact them at 540-344-8500.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and cooperation in preventing and investigating crimes against children.
