Gambling café found to be running illegally, owner arrested




MADISON, NC – The owner of Lucky Duck Internet Café on US Highway 220 in Madison was arrested after a search warrant was executed on March 14.


The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office, in collaboration with North Carolina Alcohol Enforcement, conducted the search and say found that the café was operating illegally.


During the search, various gaming electronics, hard drives, surveillance equipment, and an undisclosed amount of cash were seized, according to authorities.


As a result of the investigation, the registered owner, Brandon Tyler Pettitt, 38, of Tobaccoville Road in Tobaccoville was charged with the following:

  • Felony operating more than five video gaming machines

  • Three counts of misdemeanor gambling

  • Misdemeanor operating/possessing slot machines

  • Misdemeanor manufacture/sell slot machines

  • Misdemeanor possessing prohibited electronic sweepstakes devices


The Forsyth County Sheriff's Warrant Squad arrested Pettitt on these charges on March 18.


“For more than twenty years, the North Carolina Sheriffs' Association and I have opposed the operation of these gaming establishments in our communities,” Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page said in a news release. “Let me be clear: If these establishments operate illegally in Rockingham County, they will be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
