Goodyear Layoffs Loom Over Danville: Hundreds of Jobs at Risk

Danville, Va. (BTW21) — Hundreds of employees in Southside Virginia face uncertainty as Goodyear prepares for mass layoffs at its Danville plant.

The job cuts could begin as early as this week, leaving nearly 850 workers in limbo.

According to the Virginia Department of Workforce Development and Advancement website, the layoffs are set to take effect on Wednesday, April 2.

This move follows Goodyear’s announcement last month that it would significantly reduce its workforce at the facility to shift focus toward mixing and aviation production.

Despite the impending job losses, Danville city officials have yet to receive a formal warning notice from Goodyear.

Such notices are required to provide advance warnings to both employees and local government before large-scale layoffs, closures, or relocations occur.

When news of the layoffs first emerged, Danville City Manager Ken Larking assured the public that the city would collaborate with local and state partners to offer assistance.

These efforts include workforce training programs and job placement services to support affected employees.

Meanwhile, questions remain about the execution of the layoffs. BTW21 reached out to Goodyear for clarification on whether the job cuts would happen all at once or in stages.

In response, the company reiterated its commitment to supporting affected workers but did not provide details on the timeline of the layoffs.

As uncertainty lingers, employees at the Danville plant brace for the impact, while the community watches closely to see how the situation unfolds.
