Henry County Sheriff’s Office Assists in Arrest at Patrick & Henry Community College

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with Patrick & Henry Community College Campus Police, has arrested 35-year-old William Shane Goodman on multiple charges, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a controlled substance.


The arrest occurred on Monday, November 4, 2024, following reports of a potential threat posed by a student on the college campus. Campus Police responded quickly to locate and detain Goodman, while deputies from the Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.


Goodman, a resident of Barrows Mill Rd. in Martinsville, VA, was arrested without incident and faces the following charges:


  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (Virginia Code § 18.2-308.2)

  • Possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) (Virginia Code § 18.2-308.9)

  • Possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) (Virginia Code § 18.2-250)


Goodman is currently being held at the Henry County Adult Detention Center without bond.

Crime Stoppers may offer rewards of up to $2,500 for information leading to an arrest or conviction. The reward amount varies based on the nature and significance of the information provided.
