Bassett, Virginia
On the evening of October 19, at approximately 9:51 p.m., a Henry County Deputy initiated a traffic stop on a 2002 GMC Sierra towing a trailer at the intersection of Fairystone Park Highway and Crestview Rd.
The driver, later identified as Daniel Sparrow, 42, failed to comply with the emergency signals and accelerated, leading to a high-speed vehicle pursuit.
The pursuit proceeded along Fairystone Park Highway toward Patrick County and continued onto Woolwine Highway and Jeb Stuart Highway.
During this time, the Patrick County Sheriff’s Office took over the pursuit, attempting several Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuvers, which were unsuccessful due to the suspect's high speed and the trailer.
While in pursuit, Sparrow contacted Patrick County E-911, expressing suicidal thoughts and indicating he would not stop for law enforcement.
His actions threatened public safety significantly as he drove recklessly, forcing other vehicles off the road.
Upon re-entering Henry County, deputies resumed command of the pursuit.
In the 1900 block of AL Philpott Highway, deputies successfully forced Sparrow's vehicle off the road, concluding the pursuit.
Sparrow was arrested and charged with:
§46.2-817 – Felony Eluding
§18.2-250 – Possession of Schedule II Substance (Cocaine)
§18.2-266 – Driving a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated
§18.2-460 – Obstructing Justice, Resisting Arrest
Additionally, Sparrow had an outstanding warrant for a probation violation from Buckingham County.
He is currently held without bond at the Henry County Adult Detention Center.
This investigation is ongoing.
