HENRY COUNTY, VA
On June 3, 2024, at 10:35 am, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office received notification from the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office regarding the pursuit of a stolen 2007 yellow Toyota sedan heading towards Henry County on Axton Rd.
A Deputy from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office intercepted the vehicle on Axton Road, near A.L. Philpott Hwy. in Henry County.
Upon initiating pursuit, the suspect vehicle was traveling at a high speed. It turned right onto A.L. Philpott Hwy. and continued eastbound into Pittsylvania County.
Throughout this stretch, the suspect vehicle dangerously weaved in and out of traffic, reaching speeds of up to 100 miles per hour.
The chase persisted on A.L Philpott Hwy. until reaching Stoney Mill Road.
During the pursuit on Stoney Mill Road, a Henry County Sheriff’s Office Deputy executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (P.I.T. Maneuver) on the suspect vehicle.
Subsequently, the driver fled on foot but was apprehended shortly after without incident.
The driver was identified as Marcus Ledell Prunty, a 51-year-old homeless individual. Prunty was charged by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office with Felony Eluding (§ 46.2-817) and DUI (§ 18.2-266).
Furthermore, Prunty had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant from Pittsylvania County, which was served upon him.
He is presently detained at the Henry County Adult Detention Center without bond.
Multiple agencies participated in the pursuit, including the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, Caswell County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, and Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.
