Ice Storm Causes Widespread Power Outages in Bassett, VA Restoration Expected by 11 PM

An overnight ice storm has led to significant power outages in Bassett, Virginia, and surrounding areas.

The accumulation of ice caused numerous trees and branches to fall onto power lines, resulting in widespread service disruptions.

As of this morning, Appalachian Power Company (AEP) reports that approximately 4,029 customers in Henry County are without electricity.

AEP has deployed repair crews to address the damage.

Due to the extent of the ice-related damage, the company estimates that power restoration efforts will continue throughout the day, with an expected restoration time of 11:00 PM tonight.

The National Weather Service forecasts that rain will continue in the area before 10:00 AM, with a high near 58°F today.

Residents are advised to exercise caution, as wet conditions may persist.

AEP urges residents to stay indoors and avoid any downed power lines, as they may still be live and pose a danger.

The company also recommends having emergency supplies, such as flashlights and batteries, readily available until power is fully restored.

For the latest updates on power restoration efforts, residents can visit AEP's outage map or contact their customer service line at 1-800-956-4237.

Local authorities are monitoring the situation and will provide additional information as it becomes available.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official channels and to take necessary precautions during this time.
