AXTON, VA – Warrants are providing more insight into what took place before a deadly shooting in Axton on Saturday night.

Shortly after 8 p.m., deputies responded to the 4500 block of Irisburg Road after getting a call from a man who said he had shot his boyfriend.

Deputies arrived and they located the caller, John Andrew Brooks, outside on the front porch.

They detained him and took him to the Henry County Sheriff's Office, where he agreed to talked to an investigator.

Brooks said that around 6 p.m., he and Bryant Richard Robinson, who was his boyfriend of two years, got into a verbal argument about a TV show, according to warrants.

Warrants say Brooks went to the living room to watch something else, Robinson followed him and they continued to argue.

The verbal argument turned into a physical altercation as the men continued into the kitchen

Brooks claimed in the warrants that Robinson grabbed his throat and was choking and hitting him while he was trying to hit Robinson back to defend himself.

Both men fell to the floor, continued fighting and Brooks said he told Robinson he was going to shoot him, if he did not stop.

Brooks advised that Robinson did not stop.

Once he grabbed the gun, Bryant [Robinson] grabbed the barrel of the gun. John proceeded to push Bryant away. Once doing so, he fired the revolver three times,” the documents read.

Brooks believed he had shot Robinson in the arm, chest, and head.

According to warrants, Brooks said they had been drinking several bottles of wine and smoking marijuana.
