The Patrick & Henry Community College (P&HCC) Lady Pats softball team has made history, earning the #1 spot in the 2025 NJCAA Division III Softball Preseason Poll.
This milestone follows their triumphant 2024 season, where they secured their first-ever NJCAA DIII National Championship, establishing themselves as the team to watch this year.
Under the leadership of head coach Roger Campbell, now entering his 10th season, the Lady Pats have cemented their legacy as a powerhouse in collegiate softball.
“This preseason ranking is a testament to the dedication and excellence of everyone involved in this program,” said Campbell. “We know there’s a target on our back, but this team thrives under pressure. We’re ready to prove that last year’s championship was just the beginning.”
The Lady Pats boast an impressive lineup of returning talent. Among them are sophomores who dominated in 2024:
Laila Rodriguez (Shortstop): Batting .486 with 63 stolen bases last season, Rodriguez garnered multiple accolades, including NJCAA 1st Team All-American and the DIII Nationals Tournament MVP.
Greenly Elliott (Outfielder): Batting .375, Elliott earned spots on the 1st Team Region 10 and NJCAA DIII Nationals All-Tournament Team.
Jaci Parham (Utility): Known for her versatility, Parham hit .311 with 5 home runs and 25 RBIs, earning 1st Team NFCA honors.
Rachael Gooch (Catcher): With a batting average of .299, 5 home runs, and 33 RBIs, Gooch was named to the NJCAA 2nd Team All-American list.
The Lady Pats’ recruiting class adds depth to their roster, with standout freshmen and transfer players:
Lily Carola (Pitcher): A Union, WV native with a 4.0 GPA, Carola impressed in fall exhibitions, including a strong performance against Virginia Tech.
Kayla Bartley (Pitcher/3rd Base): Another 4.0 GPA student from Covington, VA, Bartley’s dual-threat abilities in pitching and hitting make her a key addition.
Abby Epperson (Pitcher/Utility): A transfer player, Epperson brings experience and power both on the mound and at the plate.
The Lady Pats kick off their season on the road against NJCAA Division I powerhouses Gaston College and Florence-Darlington Technical College.
They’ll host Division II Richard Bland College in their home opener before a marquee rematch against 2024 runner-up North Dakota State College of Science on February 22 at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, GA.
“The returning talent, paired with a promising recruiting class, positions us to make another deep run,” said Assistant Vice President and Athletic Director Brian Henderson. “We’re excited for what this team will accomplish in 2025.”
