Lauren Harless, RN, a dedicated nurse at Sovah Health – Danville, was recognized today with the prestigious DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nurses.
The award, presented by the DAISY Foundation, honors the exceptional, compassionate care provided by nurses who go above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of their patients.
Lauren, who works in the Medical-Surgical and Inpatient Rehab departments at Sovah Health – Danville, was nominated by a grateful patient who praised her for both her professionalism and her deep empathy.
The patient, who had been hospitalized after a visit to urgent care turned into an unexpected admission, described Lauren as "in this profession for all the right reasons."“Lauren saw me at my worst,” the patient shared. “With my family living several hours away, I felt alone.
However, Lauren made me feel like we were in this together.
She was excellent in the physical aspects of her job, but what I will remember most is her compassion.”
The patient further expressed their gratitude, saying, “I hope I never have this medical experience again, but if I do, I pray that God will send me another Lauren. Thank you!”
Such heartfelt testimonials reflect the dedication Lauren has shown throughout her nursing career, always striving to provide not only top-notch medical care but also emotional support that truly makes a difference in patients' lives.
The DAISY Award was created by the DAISY Foundation, a not-for-profit organization founded in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who passed away in 1999 from complications related to Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP).
The Barnes family wanted to honor the nurses who provided compassionate care to Patrick during his illness, leading to the creation of the DAISY Award as a way to recognize the superhuman efforts nurses perform every day.
"When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced first-hand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide patients every day and night,” said Bonnie Barnes, FAAN, CEO and Co-Founder of The DAISY Foundation.
“Yet these unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the super-human work they do. The kind of work the nurses at Sovah Health are called on to do every day epitomizes the purpose of The DAISY Award."
Lindsay Crumpton, Market Chief Nursing Officer at Sovah Health, also praised Lauren’s contributions: “Exceptional care is driven by the dedication and compassion of our nurses, and we are immensely proud to acknowledge Lauren for her outstanding service to our patients.
Lauren embodies the heart of nursing, showing an unwavering commitment to not only addressing our patients' medical needs but also offering the emotional support and kindness that truly makes a difference. This recognition highlights Lauren's remarkable contributions and the significant impact she has on our community.”
Sovah Health – Danville is proud to celebrate nurses like Lauren Harless, whose compassionate care and exceptional service embody the core values of the institution and the nursing profession.
