Corey Adam Martin, 26, of 135 E. Main Street, Martinsville, was arrested early Monday morning following an incident at a residence on Cherry Creek Road in Vesta.
Deputies responded to reports of Martin allegedly kicking in a door at the home, which a lone female occupied.
Sgt. C.L. Elgin spoke with the victim and then located Martin walking along Cherry Creek Road. When Elgin attempted to arrest him, Martin fled on foot, prompting a chase.
Despite Elgin’s efforts to take him into custody, Martin resisted arrest.
Senior Deputy Doug Perry arrived to assist, but Martin continued to fight back.
Elgin then deployed a Conductive Energy Device (TASER) and OC spray (pepper spray), yet Martin remained combative.
Lt. Dustin Foley arrived shortly after, and the three deputies were finally able to subdue Martin and take him into custody.
It was noted that Martin appeared to be under the influence of methamphetamine, and a methamphetamine-smoking device was found in his possession.
Sheriff Smith commented on the situation: "Every time we deal with him, he behaves this way. It’s only a matter of time before he seriously injures someone.”
Martin, a convicted felon with five previous probation violations, has had multiple encounters with law enforcement, leading Sheriff Smith to express frustration over the repeated use of force necessary to subdue him.
Even in the jail's intake area, Martin remained physically combative.
He faces charges of Obstruction of Justice, Trespassing with intent to damage property, Destruction of Property, and Public Intoxication.
Charges related to the smoking device are pending, as it will be sent to the state forensic lab for analysis.
Martin is currently held in the Patrick County Jail without bond.
