
A Lynchburg man died Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Wards Road in Campbell County, Virginia State Police announced.
The fatal collision occurred just after 1 p.m. at the intersection of Wards Road and McDaniel Lane.
According to state police, a truck towing a trailer was slowing in the southbound lanes of Wards Road in preparation for a left turn when it was rear-ended by an SUV.
The impact caused the SUV to run off the right side of the road and into a ditch.
The driver of the SUV, identified as 57-year-old Jay I. Martin of Lynchburg, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police confirmed that Martin was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
No other individuals were reported injured in the incident.
Virginia State Police is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
