PATRICK COUNTY, VA – A woman was taken to the hospital after her husband allegedly accidentally shot her Tuesday morning.
The Patrick County Sheriff's Office was called to a residence on Union Church Road in Ferrum for a gunshot wound victim.
Upon arrival at the scene, deputies say they found 45-year-old Melissa Atkins Hale with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Hale was airlifted to Roanoke Carillion Medical Center.
She is in stable condition and is expected to recover, according to Sheriff Dan Smith.
An investigation determined that the victim was allegedly accidentally shot by her husband, 46-year-old Daniel Steven Hale, according to Smith.
He was charged with misdemeanor reckless handling of a firearm and was released on a $2,500 unsecured bond.
