REIDSVILLE, NC – An investigation is underway for the murder of a 70-year-old woman that occurred early Wednesday morning.
At approximately 3:44 AM Rockingham and Guilford County deputies responded to the 100 block of Mamie Lane in Reidsville, NC.
Upon arrival, deputies found the victim, Patsy Ann Sergent, 70, lying on the floor, unresponsive. Deputies took over CPR which had been started by a family member. The attempt to resuscitate was unsuccessful, according to the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office.
Patsy Sergent was pronounced deceased on scene.
The Sheriff's Office says Shelby Howard Sergent, 75, has been charged and arrested for first degree murder of his wife. He was on scene when deputies arrived.
Shelby Howard Sergent has been placed in the Rockingham County Detention Facility under no bond. He is scheduled to appear in Wentworth District Court on April 18.
