PATRICK COUNTY, VA – A Meadows of Dan man has been arrested following a domestic dispute.
On Wednesday morning, a man sent multiple detailed and violent messages to his wife and another person.
The man said he was going to go to his wife's workplace and was going to shoot her and others, according to Patrick County Sheriff Dan Smith.
Management at the workplace immediately notified the Patrick County Sheriff’s Office of the threats and two deputies responded to the scene before the man drove into the parking lot.
The sheriff said the deputies approached the man and saw a rifle in his vehicle.
“The suspect arrived at his wife’s workplace within minutes of his last threat to her, armed with a loaded high powered rifle and extra ammunition; our deputies arriving before Hughes most likely averted a tragedy,” Smith said.
Keith Edward Hughes, 56, of 1153 Willis Road, was arrested at the scene around 10 AM and was charged with attempted murder, stalking, communicating threats in writing, and domestic assault and battery.
This case is still under investigation, and anyone with information is urged to contact Investigator Tennille Jessup at 276-692-5885 or Lieutenant Steve Austin at 276-692-5950.
Hughes is being held without bond in the Patrick County Jail.
