Man charged with DUI, vehicular manslaughter after fatal crash



PATRICK COUNTY, VA – An Ararat man has been charged with DUI and vehicular manslaughter after a fatal crash.


The crash occurred on Wednesday at 6:43 p.m. on Route 677, south of Route 672 in Patrick County.


A 2018 Nissan Rogue was traveling south on Route 677 when it crossed the center line and struck a 1999 Harley Davidson, according to state police.


The motorcycle was driven by 30-year-old Jacob Lehue Goad of Ararat.


Authorities said Goad was wearing a helmet and died at the scene.


The driver of the Nissan, 35-year-old Joshua Ray of Ararat, was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured, police said.


Ray was charged with driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.


The crash remains under investigation.
