HENRY COUNTY, VA – A 43-year-old man died in the hospital days after being shot during an argument in Henry County.

On November 27 at 5:27 a.m., authorities got a call from the emergency room staff at SOVAH Health in Martinsville stating that a man was dropped off there by a vehicle.

Investigators say they responded and spoke with Andrae Lamont Matthews, of Mullins Court in Martinsville, who has suffered a gunshot wound.

Matthews said he wasn’t sure where he was when he was shot and did not know who had shot him, according to investigators.

He was transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office says it was informed on November 30 by the Medical Examiner’s Office that Matthews had died due to his injuries.

He was pronounced dead on November 29 at 11:07 p.m., according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities discovered the shooting took place during an argument.

Investigators say they have developed a person of interest and this individual has been interviewed.

The firearm that is believed to have been used in the homicide has been recovered, investigators say.

“We began this investigation with no information as to what happened nor where it happened. It was hopeful the victim would survive their wounds, but unfortunately, the victim did succumb to these wounds. It took some time to determine that this incident occurred in Henry County,” Captain Wayne Davis of the Sheriff’s Office told BTW21 News.

Davis said now that this case has developed, he anticipates a conclusion to the case soon.
