Man Wanted After High-Speed Pursuit Across State Line in Rockingham County

Rockingham County, N.C.

The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office is actively searching for Cody Warren Purdy, 34, of Eden, N.C., after he led law enforcement on a high-speed chase that ended with him fleeing into a wooded area in Virginia.

The pursuit began on the evening of Thursday, November 21, 2024, when Deputy W.D. Priddy attempted to stop Purdy, who was riding a motorcycle southbound on N.C. 14 near Fisher Hill Rd. Deputy Priddy initiated the traffic stop after witnessing Purdy commit a traffic violation that nearly caused a collision with another vehicle.

When the deputy activated his emergency lights and siren, Purdy accelerated rapidly, fleeing the scene at high speeds.

The chase crossed into Virginia, with Deputy Priddy following Purdy until the motorcycle veered off the road near 4354 Morgan Ford Rd.

The motorcycle was later found on its side about 50 yards into a wooded area. However, Purdy had abandoned the bike and fled on foot.

Despite a manhunt involving local authorities from Virginia, Purdy was not located.

In addition to charges related to this pursuit, Purdy is also wanted on several outstanding warrants.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact law enforcement.

Rockingham County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for tips leading to his arrest. Tipsters can call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 336-349-9683, where calls remain anonymous. Those with information are encouraged to act quickly.

If you spot Purdy or have information about his location, please call 9-1-1 immediately.
