MARTINSVILLE, VA – During the Martinsville City Council meeting on December 13, 2022, council voted to terminate Martinsville City Attorney Eric Monday’s contract effective January 3, 2023.

After making the motion to terminate the contract, Vice Mayor Jennifer Bowles stated the nature of the termination is not a reflect on Monday’s service or ability fulfill is duties as the city’s attorney. Instead, Bowles intends to allow Monday to begin his search for other employment opportunities.

“Eric has served this city for 20 years with honesty and integrity, has been nothing but outstanding, and has served us well.” said Mayor Kathy Lawson. “Many across the state regard him as the, “best of the best,” and whether you agree with him or not, Eric has been a straight shooter, always following the letter of the law, this is our city’s loss.” added Lawson.

The search for a new city attorney is expected to begin in January of next year. For more information please email, kdavis@ci.martinsville.va.us
