On Wednesday, August 7, 2024, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Interdiction Unit, in conjunction with other deputies, conducted a traffic stop in the 1500 block of Irisburg Road. The vehicle was driven by Charles Rydell Flood Jr., accompanied by passenger Elizabeth Taylor Mitchell.
During the stop, both individuals exited the vehicle. Flood attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by deputies a short distance away. Mitchell was captured near the Dollar General store, also a short distance from the initial stop. A Henry County Sheriff’s Office narcotics K9 was deployed and alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.
A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed several items, including a firearm, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency. The suspected narcotics will be sent to the Department of Forensic Science for analysis.

33 years old, of 571 Figsboro Road, Martinsville, VA, faces the following charges:
- Probation Violation (Maliciously Shoot into Occupied Dwelling)
- Probation Violation (Possess Firearm by Felon)
- Probation Violation (Possess Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute,
Possess Firearm by a Convicted Felon) – Franklin County
- Possess Firearm by a Violent Felon
- Possess Firearm While in Possession of Schedule I or II Drug
- Possess Schedule I or II Drug with Intent to Distribute (Methamphetamine)
- Obstruction/Resisting Arrest
- Driving with Revoked License
Elizabeth Taylor Mitchell
20 years old, of 1055 Blackberry Road, Bassett, VA, faces the following charges:
- 3 Counts of Assault & Battery on Law Enforcement Officers
- Possess Schedule I or II Drug with Intent to Distribute (Methamphetamine)
- Obstruction
Both Charles Rydell Flood Jr. and Elizabeth Taylor Mitchell are currently being held without bond at the Henry County Adult Detention Center.
