MEDIA RELEASE | Shooting Investigation

 

On September 4, 2024, at approximately 9:04 p.m., the Martinsville-Henry County 911 Communication Center received a report from SOVAH Health Hospital in Martinsville, VA, regarding an individual who arrived at the emergency room with a gunshot wound.


Deputies were dispatched to the hospital to speak with the victim.


The victim, identified as Julius Alfonzo Page III, 44, from Martinsville, Virginia, sustained a gunshot wound to his right thigh.


He received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries at SOVAH Health and was later released.


The investigation revealed that Julius Page III was walking along Lakewood Trail in the Laurel Park area of Henry County when he encountered a black male with dreadlocks.


Page reported that the male began shouting at him before drawing a firearm and shooting him in the leg.


Deputies and investigators have identified the suspect as Raymond Dwayne Taylor Jr., 37, of 614 Stoney Mountain Road, Axton, VA 24054.


Taylor is currently on probation for burglary in Henry County.


Raymond Dwayne Taylor Jr. faces the following charges:

  • 18.2-51 Malicious Wounding

  • 18.2-53.1 Use of Firearm in Commission of a Felony

  • 18.2-308.2 Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon



Anyone with information about this incident or the whereabouts of Raymond Dwayne Taylor Jr. is urged to contact the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at 276-638-8751 or Crimestoppers at 63-CRIME (632-7463). The Crimestoppers Program offers rewards of up to $2,500 for information related to crimes. The amount of the reward is determined by the nature of the crime and the details provided.
