Nine Men Arrested in Operation Targeting Sex Crimes in Altavista, Virginia

A joint operation between the Altavista Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff's Office Crime Suppression Unit has resulted in the arrest of nine men on charges of solicitation of prostitution.

The operation, dubbed Operation Joint Forces, aims to reduce commercial sex and sexual exploitation in Altavista and Campbell County.

Those arrested include Christopher W. Bright, William D. Bulerin, Carry W. Keenan, Branden M. Lenover, Sandeep S. Mathone, James M. Miller Jr., John A. Nutter II, Earl L. Robertson Jr., and Johnny R. Wagner.

The men are from various locations in Virginia, including Lynchburg, Hurt, Madison Heights, Roanoke, and Gretna.

According to Campbell County Sheriff Whit Clark, reducing demand for commercial sex is a crucial part of combating sex trafficking in the community.

"Sex trafficking can only flourish where there's a demand for commercial sex," Clark said. "Reducing this demand is just one part of attacking sex trafficking in our communities."

The arrests mark a significant step forward in the efforts to tackle sex crimes in the area, and authorities hope that it will serve as a deterrent to others who may be engaging in similar activities.

The operation highlights the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies in addressing complex issues like sex trafficking and exploitation.
