Man dies following motorcycle vs. vehicle crash in Horsepasture

HORSEPASTURE, VA – A motorcyclist died after a vehicle hit him in Horsepasture on Saturday morning.


The crash occurred at 11:55 a.m. on A.L. Philpott Highway at the intersection of Preston Road.


According to Virginia State Police, a 2019 Ford Edge failed to yield the right of way while making a left turn onto A.L. Philpott Highway and was struck by a 2010 Harley Davidson motorcycle which was headed east on the highway.


State police identified the motorcyclist as 59-year-old David Wayne McMillan, of Spencer.


Police said McMillan was wearing his helmet and died at the scene.


The driver of the Ford, 73-year-old Robert Handy, of Danville, was wearing his seatbelt and sustained no injuries.

The passengers in the vehicle, 73-year-old Margaret Handy, and 46-year-old David Handy, sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital.


Robert Handy was charged with failing to yield the right of way in the crash.


The crash remains under investigation.
