Patrick & Henry Community College (P&HCC) proudly joined NC3 Leadership Schools nationwide on April 10 to host its annual NC3 National Letter of Intent Signing Day—an event that celebrates and commits incoming students to careers in technical education.
The ceremonies, held at both the MET Complex in Martinsville and the Patrick County Site, marked a major milestone for dozens of local students preparing to launch into career and technical education (CTE) pathways for the 2025–26 academic year.
Mirroring the NCAA's National Signing Day for student-athletes, this NC3 event—sponsored by the National Coalition of Certification Centers—honors students committing to high-demand, skilled trades and technical programs.
Students signed letters of intent, securing their place in P&HCC's CTE programs, in front of cheering family, friends, educators, and community leaders.

“By signing our incoming students to Letters of Intent, we’re telling them that we’ve reserved a place for them, and we want them,” said P&HCC President Dr. Greg Hodges. “Technical education will prepare them for a strong career and a financially stable future.”
The event welcomed students from Bassett, Martinsville, Magna Vista, and Patrick County high schools. In Martinsville, students committed to programs including Heavy Equipment Operation, HVAC, Motorsports Technology, Power Line Work, and Welding.
The Patrick County event featured programs such as Industrial Electronics, Plumbing, Residential/Commercial Electrician, and more.
Among those celebrated were:
Heavy Equipment Operation: Brayden Lawrence (Bassett)
HVAC: Edwin Rivera-Macarena (Magna Vista), Tayvion Penn (Bassett), Nicolas Haden (Patrick County)
Motorsports Technology: 11 students from Bassett and Magna Vista, including Christian Beltran, Freddie Brim, and Diamond VanCedarfield
Power Line Worker: Students from both sites, including Rustin Donavant (MVHS) and a team of six from Patrick County
Welding: A robust group of 15 students from across the region
Residential/Commercial Electrician: Lucas Taylor (Patrick County)
Plumbing: Jonah Shockley (Patrick County)
Industrial Electronics Technology: Noah Wingfield (Patrick County)
A special highlight of the day was the presentation of the 3M Transformational Scholarship to Ethan Morrison, one of only 50 students nationwide to receive this $1,000 award.
The scholarship, sponsored by global industry leader 3M, supports students pursuing skilled trade careers.
The event also provided families and students the chance to meet with financial aid staff and speak with local business leaders and industry partners, reinforcing the community-wide support for technical education.
Photos from the event captured memorable moments, including Bassett student Barak Martin signing his Letter of Intent alongside his proud parents, Marcia Seaton-Martin and Floyd Martin.
