RIDGEWAY–It was a game that start with a 9-0 run by the top seeded Magna Vista Lady Warriors. The Piedmont District championship game was the third matchup between Patrick County and Magna Vista. The Lady Warriors and their young 1 loss team have been one of the best and most talked about squads lead by Senior Kayla Cabiness. The Lady Cougars brought their core 4 of Lindsey Marshall, Riya Patel, Izzy Beasley and Hannah Roberson into Ridgeway for one more shot at a district title. After the initial 9-0 run, the Lady Cougars followed up with a 10-4 run. They found themselves with a 41-21 lead in the 3rd quarter but never count the gritty Lady Warriors team out. Magna Vista stormed back behind the leadership of Cabiness and scoring abilities freshman Ta’Nashia Hairston. They would cut it down to 4 but after Cabiness fouled out it became harder for the Lady Warriors to come back. The Lady Cougars won the game 49-42 as real emotions spilled on the court after the game and in response, the seniors stated “we just wanted to win for our team” and they did just that.
Also, GW Danville became district champions after defeating Martinsville 64-37.
