MARTINSVILLE, VA
The Virginia Department of Health, in collaboration with the local Health Department and Martinsville Water System, advises residents to boil tap water or use bottled water for drinking and cooking until further notice.
This precaution is necessary due to a waterline break causing reduced pressure in parts of the city’s water distribution system.
Important Instructions:
- Boil Water: Boil tap water vigorously for one minute and let it cool before using it for drinking, cooking, making beverages, or ice.
- Alternative Purification: If boiling is not possible, use liquid household bleach (5.25% hypochlorite solution) to disinfect water. Add 8 drops (about ¼ teaspoon) per gallon of water, stir, and let it stand for at least 30 minutes before use. Water purification tablets are also effective if used according to manufacturer instructions.
- Updates: We are actively working to repair the broken line and restore normal service. Updates will be provided as soon as the situation changes.
For more information, please contact Greg Maggard at (276) 403-5159. Please share this advisory with all affected parties, especially those who may not have received it directly.
We appreciate your cooperation and patience during this precautionary measure.
