Psychology teacher surprised by superintendent as Henry County’s Teacher of the Year

HENRY COUNTY, VA – A Psychology teacher was surprised by superintendent Sandy Strayer as Henry County Public Schools' Teacher of the Year on Thursday.


Bassett High School's Mary Ann Graham was selected the division's Teacher of the Year and will now compete on the regional level as part of the Virginia Department of Education Mary V. Bicouvaris Teacher of the Year program.


Additionally, the superintendent visited each school's Teacher of the Year in their classrooms to recognize them with their students present for being selected for the award by their colleagues.


Each honoree received a plaque, a sign for their yard, and a bag of gifts donated by local businesses.


Graham, the first runner-up, Career Academy Cybersecurity teacher Donna Hicks, and the second runner-up, Fieldale-Collinsville Middle School Civics teacher Jamie Hooper, received a bouquet of flowers and will receive a classroom renovation this summer.
