Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office Celebrates the Retirement of Lieutenant Kevin Suthard After 30 Years of Service

Sheriff Sam Page and the entire team at the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office are proud to congratulate Lieutenant Kevin Suthard on his retirement after an extraordinary 30-year career dedicated to serving the community.

Kevin Suthard’s career at the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office began in April 1997, when he was hired as a full-time Deputy Sheriff.

Throughout his tenure, Suthard wore many hats, contributing significantly to multiple divisions and aspects of the department. His career spanned a variety of roles, from serving as a telecommunicator and patrol deputy to becoming a patrol supervisor.

He made notable contributions to the Special Victims Unit, and worked as both an investigator and supervisor in the Criminal Investigations Division.

In addition to his investigative roles, Suthard was a dedicated School Resource Officer (SRO) and later, SRO Supervisor, where he built lasting relationships with the schools and community.

His leadership extended to the Civil and Records Divisions, where he served as the division supervisor, and he also took on the role of Public Information Officer for the Sheriff's Office.

Suthard’s commitment to public safety went beyond his day-to-day duties. He served as the CrimeStoppers Law Enforcement Liaison for Rockingham County, contributed to grant writing and administration for the Sheriff's Office, and became a Crime Prevention and Community Education Specialist.

His broad expertise also made him the Records Custodian for the agency, ensuring the accuracy and organization of critical law enforcement information.

Throughout his career, Suthard was recognized for his commitment to excellence in law enforcement, earning the Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate and Advanced Service Award from the North Carolina Department of Justice.

He also became a certified General Instructor through the Department of Justice, sharing his wealth of knowledge and skills with other officers. Additionally, Suthard served as a Hostage/Crisis Negotiator for the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team (SRT), a role that required not only tactical expertise but also the ability to manage critical, high-stakes situations.

While Suthard is retiring from full-time duties, his dedication to the citizens of Rockingham County will continue.

He will remain an integral part of the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office as a Reserve Deputy, offering his experience and support to the department he has served for three decades.

Sheriff Sam Page and the entire team at the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office thank Lieutenant Kevin Suthard for his decades of service and congratulate him on an incredible career.

His impact on the community, his colleagues, and the department will be felt for years to come.

Congratulations, Lieutenant Kevin Suthard!
